The MYC recognizes the importance of cultivating positive adult to youth relationships in an emotionally safe environment and through the use of meaningful and skill building activities. Research shows that youth who have access to and take advantage of available supports develop in a positive way.

What is an Adult Ally?

An Adult Ally is someone who volunteers their time at The MYC building healthy relationships with youth, facilitating skill building workshops in a variety of areas, and/or advocating for much needed resources in the four program areas (technology, culinary, events, and the Middle School program).

Why become an Adult Ally?

There are many reasons but here are 3 we think are important:

  • You have the power to make a differnce in the life of a youth.
  • You decide your time commitment.
  • It's really fun!

Ways to be an Adult Ally:

  • Join The MYC's Advancement Team
  • Advancement team members work with MYC staff to help create an ongoing venue for fundraising planning and implementation. They assure that resource development activiity for all other teams (technology, culinary, events, Middle School program) become part of the regular culture of the organization by seizing opportunities for donor cultivation. Youth members, with the support of Adult Allies, learn fundraising, communication, leadership, and marketing skills. This group meets monthly.
  • Join The MYC's Community Advisory Committee
  • The Community Advisory Committee meets every 3 months and is a venue for reporting programmatic progress, discussing new opportunities for The MYC, and seeking advice and support from the community.
  • Lead or help facilitate a program or workshop in technology, culinary, arts, or middle school.
  • Volunteer at the reception desk.
